Tampa Plastic Surgery Cosmetic Surgery
Dr. Lawrence G.
Kass, M.D.
Board Certified in Facial Cosmetic Surgery
Lawrence Kass M.D. is a
Board Certified Diplomat of the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery in
Facial Cosmetic Surgery. He is Fellowship trained in Oculo-Facial
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and is the Director of The Center for
Cosmetic Facial and Eye Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Kass is very
proud of the fact that, for each of the past eighteen consecutive years,
he has been selected, without fail, to be one of the Best Doctors in
America as voted on by his medical colleagues and peers.
For the first time he can
recall, Dr. Kass was recently asked by a patient if he had attended
medical school in the U.S. Before answering yes (more about this
later), Dr. Kass considered the question and decided that this was, in
fact, a very good question. But not because he thought that there was
anything wrong with doctors who were trained overseas.
Instead, Dr. Kass thought
it was a good question because it demonstrated to him that this
particular patient was trying to learn more about his background before
selecting him to perform the plastic surgery that she desired. Dr. Kass
believes that all patients seeking plastic surgery should be inquisitive
about their doctors’ background, and he encourages such questions.
Because of all the
problems confronting medical care and health insurance in the U.S.
today, more and more physicians are entering the fields of cosmetic and
plastic surgery. Not all of these doctors are well-trained in the
procedures they do. Not all of them are good doctors. Not all have the
experience necessary to make good decisions. Dr. Kass believes that it
is difficult for a patient to know whom to choose. For this reason, we
would like to provide some information about Dr. Kass and his
background.
Background
Dr. Kass grew up on Long Island in Jericho, N.Y. While always a good
student, for most of his childhood he was more interested in
participating in stickball, soccer, Little League baseball, and pickup
basketball and football games. But after entering high school, the
future Dr. Kass paid more attention to his studies. He attained perfect
800 scores on the standardized Achievement Tests (now called SAT II’s)
in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics and a perfect score of 5 on his
Advanced Placement examination in BC Calculus. Ultimately, he graduated
at the very top of his class, Valedictorian of Jericho High School. This
school has, according to Newsweek magazine, been consistently ranked
within the top five public high schools in the entire U.S.
Dr. Kass turned down
offers from Princeton University, Brown University, and a very
prestigious accelerated program at Northwestern University, to accept a
similar, highly selective, accelerated medical program at Boston
University.
Undergraduate and
Medical Training
Because of his superior achievements in high school, Dr. Kass was
accepted into both the undergraduate school at B.U. and into the Boston
University School of Medicine. Here he encountered 52 other students
just like himself. Fully 25 of the 53 total students of this highly
selective program were the Valedictorians of their respective high
school classes. Within this super-selective group of these highest
achievers, Dr. Kass finished his studies within the top five. This
performance enabled him to graduate from Boston University with both
Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa Honors.
After postgraduate training at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola,
N.Y., Dr. Kass did his residency at the University of South Florida. In
addition to serving as Chief Resident, Dr. Kass received the highest
score EVER achieved at this program on the national residency
examinations.
Dr. Kass was then
accepted for a Fellowship in Oculo-Facial Plastic Surgery at the
prestigious Manhattan, Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital under the preceptorship of the late Dr. Albert Hornblass, one of the most
respected names in this highly specialized field. Only 20 physicians in
the entire nation are accepted to approved Fellowships in this medical
field each year.
Private Medical Practice
After completing all of his formal medical training, Dr. Kass
established a private medical practice in Pinellas County in 1986. He
has continued to participate in the academic aspects of medicine by
writing and publishing numerous articles in peer-reviewed medical
journals. He was an early member of the highly selective and prestigious
American Society of Oculo-Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and
is one of only a handful of Diplomats in Cosmetic Facial Surgery
recognized by the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery in the entire state
of Florida. Dr. Kass proudly maintains his membership in the American
Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, the
American Board of
Ophthalmology, American Medical Association, and the
Florida Medical Association. He is a past president of the
Tampa Bay
Ophthalmology Society.
Dr. Kass is nationally
recognized as a pioneer in the use of both lasers and the Hetter
chemical peel for facial rejuvenation procedures. He remains active in
teaching young physicians the art and the science of cosmetic facial and
plastic surgery.
Dr. Kass has remained happily married to his first and only wife for the
past 22 years. He resides in St. Petersburg and is the proud father of
three children. When he isn’t working, helping his kids with homework,
or helping to drive them to their activities, Dr. Kass may be found
happily playing tennis.
