Laser Hair Removal Getting Ready For Summer

As the warmer months quickly approach and you begin spending more time outside in your bathing suit, shorts, or tank tops, you may be looking for some hair removal solutions to keep you looking silky smooth all summer long. While waxing and shaving are popular solutions, they can be a pain to maintain. Hair removal products are also popular, but the harsh chemicals they contain can be harmful and irritating to your skin. So what is a more lasting, less harmful solution? Here at Tampa Bay Cosmetic Surgery Center, we are proud to offer laser hair removal services to our patients to help address these concerns.

How does it work?

Prior to your procedure, we will evaluate your skin and hair type to determine which laser will best suit your needs. We will discuss the risks and benefits associated with laser treatments as well as your expectations so that you can best prepare for treatment. The laser we select will emit a specialized, pulsed light which will be absorbed by the pigment in your hair and then transmitted down the hair shaft of the root. The hair follicle will be damaged by the heat of the laser and future growth prohibited.

The duration of your session will be largely dependent upon which area of the body we are treating. Small areas such as the upper lip may only take about 5 minutes, while other areas that are larger such as the back or the legs may take up to an hour. We ask that you shave or trim the area of treatment prior to your appointment, but do not wax or pluck any hairs in the area for at least three weeks prior to your scheduled treatment.

Maximizing Your Results

The results of your treatment will vary depending on your specific response to the laser and the area being treated. Most patients experience long-lasting results with little to no additional hair growth. Some patients do have minimal hair regrowth that is significantly less, finer, lighter, and more sparse than what was experienced prior to treatment.

It is important to note that laser hair removal is performed over a series of sessions in order to target hair at different stages of the growth cycle. The number of sessions you will need will be dependent upon the area being treated, but most patients need somewhere between six to eight treatments before they experience their desired results. If you do experience any regrowths, we can address those with touch-up sessions.
