The Tampa Bay Cosmetic Surgery Center makes painless injections a reality

St. Petersburg, FL (January 20, 2014) – The Tampa Bay Cosmetic Surgery Center, the internationally popular clinic with offices in St. Petersburg and Clearwater, Florida, is implementing Vibration Anesthesia Devices (VAD) in procedures that require local anesthesia or facial filler and wrinkle treatment injections.

Based upon the Gate Theory of Pain, VAD devices basically scramble pain receptors, reducing the opportunities for receptors to synapse or stimulate projection cells which carry pain signals to the brain.”The VAD device confuses receptors at the injection site, and closes the gate that carries pain signals to the brain,” says Dr. Lawrence Kass, Director of the Tampa Bay Cosmetic Surgery Center. “While it doesn’t guarantee that all patients will feel no discomfort from an injection, it certainly promises a more comfortable procedure for the majority of our patients.”

The battery-operated device, developed by California’s Blaine Labs, leaves no marks on the skin, and is completely non-invasive. Patients report only feeling the vibration of the device on their skin during a procedure.

“This device is much more effective than topical Lidocaine or Ethyl Chloride, used in the past to numb injection sites,” adds Kass. “While useful, they may leave residue behind, cause side effects, or remove a patient’s make-up – a minor but inconvenient consequence when patients must return to work after a lunch-hour procedure.”

The VAD can also be used for suture removal, staple removal, phlebotomies, and injections of medication. Patients can ask for the VAD, at no extra charge, when receiving injections.
